5 Reasons to Plan a Winter Getaway at Sunriver Resort
The cure for the winter blues can be found in the heart of beautiful Central Oregon. A winter getaway at Sunriver Resort will be filled with outdoor adventure, family fun, relaxation and much more. Here are just five reasons you should start planning your winter escape now.
1. Endless Snowy Adventures
Sunriver Resort is an outdoor adventure playground year-round – and things just get even more fun during the winter. Just a few of the snow-filled activities and experiences include:
- Mt Bachelor Skiing: With more than 800 acres and 20 groomed runs to ski or ride, Mt. Bachelor – just 20 minutes from Sunriver – offers some of the best skiing/snowboarding experiences in the entire Pacific Northwest. All experience levels will love the slopes at Mount Bachelor. Daily shuttles are available from Sunriver to Mt. Bachelor during designated times.
- Winter Wonderland Snowshoeing Tours: Wanderlust Tours offer small group snowshoeing tours during the season, including all the gear and training you need. Your naturalist guides know the best off-the-beaten-path destinations, what wildlife to keep an eye out for, and much more.
- Snowmobiling: Between mid-November and mid-April, Central Oregon Adventure’s daily, two- and four-hour snowmobile trips give you the chance to zoom across snowy meadows and high-mountain terrain.
- Dog Sledding: Have you ever been dogsledding? It’s a winter adventure like no other. Oregon Trail of Dreams offers incredible Mount Bachelor rides behind a real dog-sled team who are just as adorable as they are powerful!
- Sno-Parks: Just a short drive from Sunriver, you’ll discover several of Central Oregon’s Sno-Parks, boasting miles and miles of groomed Nordic, snowshoe and snowmobile trails. For families, Wanoga Sno-Play Area delivers some of the state’s most thrilling sledding hills. And Messner Sno-Park offers more than 14 miles of perfectly maintained trails for all types of winter adventures. Note: Sno-Park permits are required between November 1st and April 30th. Daily permits are $4, annual permits are $25 and can be purchased at the DMV and locations listed here.
2. Sunriver is Just Right for the Whole Family
“Fun for all ages” is a cliché – but at Sunriver it’s the absolute truth. From toddlers to grandparents, the resort is an ideal destination for a family getaway. Together, you can enjoy the snowy adventures detailed above, but you can also split up for a bit to explore on your own.
- Pac-Man, anyone? The Attic Game Room, Sunriver Resort’s own arcade, is filled with new and vintage arcade games for the whole family to enjoy.
- Wrap yourself up in warm winter blankets and treat your family to a time-honored winter tradition: A one-horse open sleigh ride along the Deschutes River.
- While the kids play, you can hit the Sage Springs Club & Spa (see below) or relax over Pacific Northwest beer and wine at the Twisted River Tavern.
3. The Scenic Beauty Can't Be Beat
There’s something truly magical about Sunriver’s winter landscape, when a blanket of snow covers the Cascadian Mountains and the surrounding foothills. Out here, things quiet down in the winter months, creating a serene and still environment that will delight the senses – whether you’re out exploring or cozying up to the Grand Lodge’s roaring fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa.
4. It's a Place to Refresh, Reset and Recharge
A winter escape at Sunriver is the perfect time to unplug and unwind – and the resort’s Sage Springs Club & Spa is just the place to indulge in some “me time.” Sage Springs is a state-of-the-art wellness destination dedicated to improving your body, mind and soul, often using organic and locally grown products.
